GETTING PAID: Stat Decs, Holdbacks & Letters of Intent

Part of the Construction Law Series

Description

Understanding the essential forms used in construction is key to ensuring you get paid and protecting your projects. This session covers three critical areas:

  • Statutory Declarations: Discover what statutory declarations are, why they’re needed and their implications. We’ll discuss the advantages and disadvantages of providing or requesting them and how they impact your project.
  • Holdbacks: Learn about holdback requirements under the Builders’ Lien Act. We’ll explain how holdbacks work, their role in safeguarding both parties, and key compliance considerations.
  • Letters of Intent: Before you sign or accept a letter of intent, it’s important to grasp its effects. This session will cover crucial aspects like payment terms, the potential binding nature of the letter and its impact on your project’s legal status.
