Estimating for Contractors

Estimating for Contracting will provide you with the knowledge and tools to provide a complete quality estimate that supports a company’s main objective - profitability. A quality estimate with achievable components is often the first and a necessary step to a successful and profitable project. This process-driven course covers all estimate components and requirements from receipt of tender documents to submission of quotation and beyond tender closings. With an understanding and implementation of these skills, the estimator can provide a quality estimate that their company will have confidence in when setting fees.

Estimating for Contracting uses a multi-module application approach to provide you with the concepts and processes that guide the development of a quality estimate. These modules are applicable to both bidding subcontractors and general contractors. For those modules with different application and implementation for subcontractors and general contractors, this course addresses both scenarios. Modules include real life work exercises and examples, why processes need to be followed and the consequences of not following them, missed winning bids or worse - an unprofitable project!

Randy Storoschuk, Sustainable² Construction Services Ltd.

Randy has more than 35 years of experience in construction, working as a labourer, estimator, chief estimator, project manager and risk manager. He’s worked under many contractual arrangements such as lump sum, design/build, unit price, and P3 for building, civil and industrial projects. Notable projects that Randy has worked on include BellMTS Place, Manitoba Hydro’s downtown office building, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Disraeli Bridge project. In the early stages of his career, Randy estimated and managed lump sum bid and negotiated projects which included all areas of construction. Randy then moved into risk management where the focus was on request for proposal responses, preconstruction planning and construction document development, while working in a project team environment.

Over the past few years of “retirement,” Randy has been giving back to the industry by mentoring up-and-coming estimators and sharing his knowledge and experiences in the classroom.

Payment is non-refundable for cancellations made within two (2) full business days of the course start date and there will be no transfers to future course dates.
