Managing Pre-Subcontract Risks
Description
Managing Pre-Subcontract Risks course will provide you a process, tools and knowledge to identify risks and include appropriate allowances in your project estimate and project execution plan. By identifying these risks and including appropriate allowances in your estimates, companies maximize their opportunity to realize their anticipated project profit. These risks may be subtly included in the bid documents or not at all in the bid process, however, subcontractors are expected to provide these requirements during construction.
This one-day course uses a module approach to provide the knowledge and process to identify risks from receipt of bid documents to the signing of a subcontract. Modules include real life examples of risks that companies will be exposed to and why following a risk identification process will benefit your company.

- Estimates
- Quotations
- Subcontracts
Intended Audience

- Estimators
- Management who reviews estimates
- Superintendent and Forepersons who provide inputs into a bid’s project execution plan
Presenter
Randy Storoschuk, Sustainable2 Construction Services Ltd.
Randy has more than 35 years of experience in construction, working as a labourer, estimator, chief estimator, project manager and risk manager. He has worked under many contractual arrangements such as lump sum, design/build, unit price, and P3 for building, civil and industrial projects. Notable projects that Randy has worked on include BellMTS Place, Manitoba Hydro’s downtown office building, the Canadian Museum for Human Rights and the Disraeli Bridge project. In the early stages of his career, Randy estimated and managed lump sum bid and negotiated projects which included all areas of construction. Randy then moved into risk management where the focus was on request for proposal responses, preconstruction planning and construction document development, while working in a project team environment.
Over the past few years of his “retirement,” Randy has been giving back to the industry by mentoring up-and-coming estimators and sharing his knowledge and experiences in the classroom. Randy facilitates a range of courses for the Winnipeg Construction Association, including Estimating, Understanding Construction Documents and Risk Management.
