Improving Mental Health in Your Company

Description

While mental health awareness has increased over the past several years, mental health issues continue to be referred to as “the silent epidemic”, impacting construction workers everywhere. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention construction is one of the most at-risk industries for suicide, and one in five construction workers deal with mental health issues.

While the industry itself has an impact on the mental health of your employees, the mental health of your employees is also affecting your business. Disability claims related to mental illness including stress, depression and substance abuse are substantial and on the rise.

This half-day course will help you implement strategies your company needs to manage and enhance the organization’s mental health. Learn how to establish company policies and resources to assist you in supporting employees, your legal responsibilities and duties and how to include mental health as part of your company culture and safety program. Your company will reap the benefits of a healthy workforce with fewer absences, increased productivity, and increased morale.

Topics:

  • The ugly truth – Stigma and stats on mental health in the construction industry
  • Costs of getting it wrong – Business reasons you can’t ignore, the direct and indirect costs related to mental illness
  • Your legal obligations
  • Developing your mental health company policy
  • How to support your people
