Description

Over the past several years, Lean Design & Construction as a means of improving project delivery has been growing in popularity. “Lean enabling” collaborative contract methods including Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) have also been a trend. However, Lean’s original intention and biggest impact has been seen when companies integrate Lean internally as a competitive business system, an operating strategy and philosophy. In Canada, we are joining others across the globe in realizing that BOTH Enterprise Lean and Lean Project Delivery are critical for our industry’s collective success and sustainability

The pandemic has increased the already significant challenges businesses are facing. This includes competitive pressures, constant business disruption, supply chain issues, the rapid growth of technology and digital adoption, remote work and employee engagement challenges. These obstacles have shifted the conversation from “Why should we do Lean?” to “Can we really afford not to do Lean?”.

Applying Enterprise Lean is both strategic and tactical in nature. In fact, it’s about bringing the two into better alignment.

  • Lean is about maximizing value for our customers, and translating that throughout every process, function and role in our organization through reducing waste, improving flow continuously and meeting demand competitively.
  • Lean is about investing in our people and our teams so that they become better performers, problem solvers and innovators. Success results from an individual mindset shift where people see their work differently, explore what is possible, break away from status quo habits and adopt more innovative and efficient approaches.
  • Lean is about making the work better, easier, faster, cheaper, safer, and more enjoyable … FOR REAL.
