Description
Communicating effectively is a critical component to a supervisor’s success. As a construction supervisor, you spend a significant amount of time in interpersonal situations, leading others to move a project along and get work done. Good communication can increase performance and reduce conflicts, helping you become a successful leader.
Great Communicators Make Great Supervisors focuses on developing strong and clear communication strategies that will help you improve your listening, your messaging and your delivery. You will explore powerful active listening techniques, and the value of non-verbal communication. During this session, you will also learn how to deliver a message with impact to get the results you want, how to provide constructive feedback to your employees and what pitfalls to avoid, negotiation strategies that result in a win-win outcome and the basics of written communication in construction. This session will wrap up with a review of common communication blunders and potential barriers to communication success.

Jaime Mann, Econo Wall & Ceilings Ltd.
Jaime is the founder of The Amaryllis Project, a training, consulting and facilitation firm, specializing in leadership development, executive coaching and personal growth.
As a current partner in a commercial construction company, Jaime has hands-on experience and an in-depth understanding of the industry. She is currently the director of HR and manages all safety programming, and is especially interested in providing an engaging working environment where employees are appreciated and always encouraged to learn and grow.
Jaime graduated from the University of Manitoba with a Psychology Honours degree, and more recently has completed Certificates in both Applied Management and Human Resources Management. She is a certified coach (CPC), and is a practitioner of positive psychology through the Flourishing Center. Jaime is in the process of attaining her accreditation as a Skills for Success Workplace Practitioner©, as well as her Certified Relational Skills Trainer© through Workplace Education Manitoba.

- Jaime loves animals and is especially committed to winning over her bossy kitty, Missy Elliot.
- A pan of nachos must *always* be composed of 2 full and complete layers.

With Building Supervisors for Tomorrow (BST), up-and-coming and mid-level supervisors gain the knowledge and confidence to move into management roles. BST puts an emphasis on practical knowledge, providing participants with the additional skills and resources needed to excel at new challenges on the job site.
Effective construction supervision requires a wide variety of skills, such as people skills (communication, teamwork, conflict resolution, coaching), technical skills (planning, meetings and delegation), and management skills (human resources and authentic leadership).
This comprehensive program provides it all, and is delivered in manageable segments by industry experts with extensive hands-on experience in construction’s ICI sector. Participants have the flexibility to attend modules in any order. Once participants have completed all ten courses, including Leadership for Safety Excellence delivered by the Construction Safety Association of Manitoba, they will be awarded a Building Supervisors for Tomorrow (ICI) certificate.
