Building Code: Renovations & Upgrading to Existing Buildings (NBC 2020)
Description
This session covers the City of Winnipeg Building Bylaw, the Manitoba Building Code and the Manitoba Fire Code requirements that pertain to renovations and upgrading of existing buildings in the City of Winnipeg. We will also review the Richardson Report, which can be applied to the rehabilitation and change of use of some existing buildings.
During this session, you will become familiar with requirements that apply to renovations and upgrading of existing buildings. This workshop will examine buildings that only require selective compliance with the Code and when full compliance with current Code is required. We’ll also explain the “triggers” that require full Code compliance.

- Building use – major occupancy classification
- Difference between change of use as defined by the City of Winnipeg Building Bylaw and by the City of Winnipeg Zoning Bylaw
