Building Code: Preparing Alternative Solutions (NBCC 2020)
Description
Every project is different, and sometimes traditional methods won’t get the job done. An Alternative Solution is an alternative that will achieve at least the minimum level of performance required by Division B in the areas defined by the objectives and functional statements attributed to the applicable acceptable solutions (a.k.a. prescriptive compliance). All proposals for an Alternative Solution must be made by a design professional skilled and experienced in the matter.
In this session, you will explore issues surrounding the documentation of Alternative Solutions, including the types of documentation required and the need for such documentation to be retained and kept available by the authority having jurisdiction.
Topics:
- NBC Compliance Options
- Objectives, Functional Statement, Intent and Application Statements
- Alternative Solution Format (Templates) for Presentation to the AHJ
- Presentation and Review Process by City of Winnipeg
- How Alternative Solution Proposals Handled by the City or Winnipeg
- Approaches to Preparing a Proposed Alternative Solutions
BONUS! Included in your course registration is access to Building Code Software designed and maintained by John Frye. This is exclusive software that you will NOT find anywhere else!
