BUILDING CODE: High Buildings and CAN/ULC S1001

Description

This session introduces the special requirements for high buildings under the 2020 National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) and CAN/ULC-S1001: Integrated Systems Testing of Fire Protection and Life Safety Systems. You’ll learn what defines a “high building,” why these requirements exist, and how they affect design, construction, and occupancy. We’ll also cover the fundamentals of S1001 testing—what it involves, what’s required, and how to keep your projects compliant and safe.

Intended Audience

This course is ideal for anyone involved in ICI construction projects where Part 3 of the NBCC applies, including: 

  • Contractors responsible for code compliance, permitting and coordination during construction
  • Architects and Engineers involved in building design and code analysis
  • Interior Designers and Technologists working on layouts, finishes and occupancy considerations
  • Project Managers and Site Supervisors who need to understand code impacts during construction and inspection
  • Building Officials or Facility Owners looking to better understand design requirements and limitations
