BUILDING CODE: Means of Egress - Exits and Access to Exits

Two part course

Description

Knowing how people get out of a building safely is one of the most important parts of code compliance. This two-part session walks through the NBC requirements for exits, travel distances, stair design, exit capacity, and more. Whether you’re working on a new build or retrofitting an existing space, you’ll see how Section 3.4 of the 2020 National Building Code of Canada (NBC) applies to buildings regulated under Part 3.

An understanding of means of egress requirements is fundamental to any code analysis and needs to be considered early in the design stage. It’s equally important when analyzing existing buildings, where exit capacity can be a critical factor. Designers and constructors alike must be confident in how these rules are applied.
